LET’S PLAY TERRAZZO
FUORISALONE 2025
Once considered just a way to reuse marble waste, the modern Terrazzo has come a long way. From the skilful craftsmanship of Venetian craftsmen to floorings that evoke memories of Italian grandmothers’ homes, to its rebirth in Art Deco and Mid-Century inspired designs, reinterpreted today by the greatest designers. From a finish that was culturally perceived as less prestigious, born from the re-use of marble fragments, Terrazzo has undergone a real transformation, going from a humble material to the protagonist of luxury. Its versatility, infinite creative possibilities, ability to guarantee uniformity on large surfaces and the distinctive touch that each designer can give it have made it a choice of excellence in contemporary projects.
LET’S PLAY TERRAZZO by Agglotech is an installation that provokes. An invitation to play with the Terrazzo, both formally and philosophically, broadening its perspective. A creative game on two levels: the first is the mixing of agglomerates, the second is the search for new forms. Following the theme of FuoriSalone 2025, “Connected Worlds”, the installation is conceived as a tent, a symbol of freedom of movement and adaptability to contexts. A perfect metaphor for the Terrazzo, free in its infinite combinations and able to dialogue harmoniously with other finishes. The exhibition takes place in the outdoor area of a historic Italian café in Corso Monforte 4, in the beating heart of the Fuorisalone in Milan, transforming a discreet space into a meeting point for ideas, creativity and connections.
The interior of the tent cleverly combines elements that evoke different themes related to the essence of Terrazzo. Green curtains cover the walls with a Terrazzo effect finish, creating a link between the fluidity of the fabric – static and dynamic at the same time – and the versatility of the material. The Terrazzo is not just a covering from the past, but a three-dimensional material capable of transforming itself into new shapes. The centrepiece of the space is a Terrazzo billiard table with coordinated balls, the result of research into the material’s expressive potential and its capacity to surprise. The game here becomes an act of hospitality and interaction, a means of connecting people through a shared experience. The exhibition is transformed into a veritable social lounge, where architects and designers can engage with Agglotech to discover new ways of interpreting Terrazzo.
A dialogue of ideas takes place around round Terrazzo tables and Thonet stools, evoking the atmosphere of historic Italian billiard rooms and cafeterias, recalling memories of play and conviviality. The chequered floor in Terrazzo celebrates visual harmony through contrast, emphasising how connection between individuals does not necessarily imply homogeneity: even opposing visions can coexist in balance. Just as the Terrazzo is not only made of uniform colours, but can be a game of contrasts, the chess pattern evokes an animated chessboard, where visitors themselves become the protagonists of their own “moves”. Leading this vision is Michael Vincent UY, founder of MVUY and new Creative Director of Agglotech, who debuts with an invitation to rediscover the concept of play and reflect on the essence of Terrazzo. An exhortation to experiment, explore and blur the boundaries of creativity.
Creativity is not only expressed in design, but also in technique, technology and,
sometimes, in the ability to play with ideas, freeing ourselves from predefined patterns and
expanding the narrative possibilities of a material.
Welcome to Agglotech, LET’S PLAY TERRACE.
